Access to Heritage
The Access to Heritage component of the Museums Assistance Program (MAP) fosters greater access to heritage across different geographic regions of Canada. Eligible projects are related to travelling exhibitions in order to assist heritage organizations to reach new audiences and to reflect Canada’s diverse cultural and natural heritage.
The deadline to submit applications for 2013-2014 projects to the Access to Heritage component is November 1, 2012.
To be eligible under the Access to Heritage component, applicants must meet the criteria of one of the following two categories:
- Incorporated non-profit Canadian museums which:
- Provide services to the public year-round;
- Employ the equivalent of one full-time paid professional staff;
- Have policies for key museum functions; and
- Have a current three to five-year strategic/business plan.
- Incorporated non-profit service organizations whose membership relates to the museum sector.
Applicants that are governed by other levels of government or by academic or cultural institutions are eligible but must have distinct objectives, programs and budgets related to heritage. Federal departments, Crown corporations and agencies are not eligible for MAP funding.
Please consult the guidelines.
MAP Application Process
Project proposals are reviewed competitively once each year. Applications must be postmarked no later than on the announced deadline date.
It is highly recommended that you consult your regional program officer to discuss your project prior to submission. To discuss your application for funding, contact the nearest regional office. National organizations should contact the national office.
Direct your application package to the nearest regional office of the Department of Canadian Heritage or, for national organizations, to the national office.
