Canada Day Challenge 2013 Entry Rules
Eligibility:
- You must be between the ages of 8 and 18 and live in Canada.
- You must submit an original piece of your work: poster design, digital photograph or piece of creative writing (herein after referred to as “entry”). Entries cannot be a tracing or a copy of a published photograph, artwork, magazine, book illustration or other material protected by copyright law.
- You are not eligible if you are an employee or member of the immediate family of an employee or persons living under the same roof as an employee of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
- You may enter in one, two or all three of the following categories:
- Draw it! (original poster design)
- Snap it! (digital photography)
- Write it! (creative writing)
Information required:
- You must fill out an official ENTRY FORM and complete all fields, unless stated otherwise, of information for each entry. Entries submitted without an official entry form will be disqualified.
Privacy Notice Statement
- Collection and use of personal information by the Department of Canadian Heritage is in accordance with the federal Privacy Act.
- Under the Privacy Act, you have the right to access your personal information and request changes to incorrect information. Contact our Privacy Coordinator ataiprp.atip@pch.gc.ca to access your personal information or to notify us about incorrect information.
- The collection and use of personal information for the Canada Day Challenge is authorized by sub. 4(1) of the Department of Canadian Heritage Act, R.S., 1985, c.E-22 and is required for your participation.
- We will use your personal information for the purposes of determining contest eligibility and any follow-up regarding the Challenge. Your entry, name, age, grade and province/territory of residence may be made public. The personal information collected for all submissions under this program will be retained for five (5) years.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Entries that comply with these Canada Day Challenge entry rules will be judged based on the following evaluation criteria:
DRAW IT! :
- Originality and creativity of visual presentation and description provided in the entry form;
- Interpretation of theme; and
- Artistic merit and design.
SNAP IT! :
- Originality and creativity of visual presentation and description provided in the entry form;
- Interpretation of theme; and
- Artistic merit and photographic technique.
WRITE IT! :
- Originality and creativity of writing;
- Interpretation of theme; and
- Good use of grammar and spelling.
- The Canada Day Challenge judging panel will select three (3) finalists for each category. From these finalists, a national winner and two (2) runners-up for each category will be selected. Please note that decisions made by the judging panel are final.
- The selection of the winning entries will take place during the months of April and May 2013.
- The Department of Canadian Heritage will notify the finalists on or around June 1, 2013 by email and/or telephone.
- The Department of Canadian Heritage will provide finalists with a declaration that must be signed by the winner (if the winner has attained the age of majority) or a parent/legal guardian (if the winner has not attained the age of majority) attesting their compliance with the Canada Day Challenge entry rules and granting the Queen in Right of Canada as represented by the Minister of Canadian Heritage, a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty free license to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, communicate, publicly display, perform, and distribute the entries in whole or in part and in any media now known or in future invented for purposes of operating, advertising and promoting the Canada Day Challenge contest.
Prizes:
- Prizes are offered by the Department of Canadian Heritage and the official sponsors of the Canada Day Challenge. You can find a complete list of prizes here.
- Prizes must be accepted as awarded–no substitution, transfers or exchanges will be permitted.
Deadline:
- Entries in all categories must be submitted no later than March 22, 2013. The Department of Canadian Heritage will take no responsibility for entry and entry forms that contain errors or are incomplete, lost, misdirected, or damaged.
