Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 26th Annual Prix Gémeaux

OTTAWA, September 18, 2011 - Canada's French-language programs and series, enjoyed on our television screens or through digital media, have a special place in our cultural landscape. They keep us informed, tell our stories, and help shape our identity. They also generate significant economic activity and are successful not only here at home, but also abroad. 

The 26th annual Prix Gémeaux awards gala is an opportunity to highlight the talent, creativity, and innovative spirit of the artists and craftspeople who use diverse means of creating, producing, and sharing to bring us quality cultural content in French. They make an outstanding contribution to our culture and deserve to be recognized. 

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to thank the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for its ongoing work to promote and celebrate excellence. Congratulations to all of this year's nominees and award winners, including everyone involved in the production of 19-2 (best dramatic series), Yamaska II (best serial drama), and Les Parent (best comedy).
