Canada Day Challenge 2013 Requirements
By submitting an entry, you agree to the rules of the Canada Day Challenge and the following lists of requirements.
DRAW IT!
- You must be the sole artist.
- Your artwork should:
- be no smaller than 8.5 x 11 inches.
- be no larger than 18 x 24 inches.
- be in colour.
- be an original illustration in any of the following media: paint (oil/acrylic/watercolour/tempera/ gouache), pastels, inks, coloured pencils, markers and crayons, etc. Please note, that computer-generated drawings are acceptable. All artist signatures or initials should be written on the back of the poster.
- be sent with the entry form (Accessible PDF) to your Canadian Heritage Regional Office in your province or territory and be postmarked no later than March 22, 2013.
- Your artwork should not:
- be three-dimensional. Items such as sparkles, beads, and feathers, cannot be included in the design.
- use letters or numbers, with the exception of calendar dates, which are permitted.
- contain clip art or photographs as part of the design.
- display any third party trademarks, brands and/or logos or any materials that are not copyright-cleared. Instead, use your artistic ability to create a poster that is completely original. That way, you can be sure that your entry does not include trademarks that belong to someone else!
- be matted or framed.

SNAP IT!
- You must take the photograph yourself.
- Your photograph should:
- be taken with digital camera, smartphone or camera phone.
- be in JPEG format and the highest resolution possible, up to a maximum 5MB. Remember, the higher your resolution, the clearer your photo will be!
- be taken within the last 12 months.
- be submitted with the entry form (Accessible PDF) as an attachment via email to challenge@pch.gc.ca.
- Your photograph should not:
- include any images of any people.
- be altered in any major way. For example, the adding or removing objects is not acceptable; however, industry standard minor touch-ups, minor burning, dodging and/or colour correction are acceptable. Cropping is acceptable.
- be a composite image or montage.
- display any third party trademarks, brands and/or logos or any materials that are not copyright-cleared.

WRITE IT!
- You must be the sole author.
- Your piece of writing should:
- be no longer than 500 words.
- be a short story, a poem or even an essay–you choose how you wish to express the theme in creative writing!
- be an original text - plagiarism will not be accepted.
- be written in either French or English.
- be submitted with the form (Accessible PDF) as an attachment in an accessible text format, such as a .doc document, via email to challenge@pch.gc.ca.
- Your piece of writing should not:
- have been previously published.
- include inappropriate or profane language or content in your writing.

Please remember: The Canada Day Challenge is an educational program for youth. All entries must not contain material that promotes racism, pornography defamation, hate propaganda, discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
Note:
To access the PDF (Portable Document Format) version you must have a PDF reader installed. If you do not already have such a reader, there are numerous PDF readers available for free download or for purchase on the Internet:
To take advantage of PDF features:
- Save the PDF form on your computer;

- Complete the form; and
- Save it again once filled.
