Harper Government Invests in the Fête du Vol Libre de Mont-Saint-Pierre
MONT-SAINT-PIERRE, Quebec, July 25, 2012 - An investment in the Mont-Saint-Pierre Fête du Vol Libre (hang-gliding festival) will enable Gaspé residents to enjoy the arts while fostering tourism and economic growth in the region. Funding was announced today by the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism) and Member of Parliament (Beauce), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
This funding will support presentations of rock and Quebec folk music, as well as telling legends and stories to young audiences, at the 35th edition of the Fête du Vol Libre, which is taking place from July 25 to 29.
“This year marks the start of the five-year countdown to Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is proud to invest in projects that contribute to our collective identity and define who we are as Canadians. On the road to 2017, let us continue to celebrate all of the things that make Canada the united, prosperous, and free country we are today.”
“With breathtaking landscapes and festival, it’s not surprising that Mont-Saint-Pierre attracts thousands of spectators for the Fête du Vol Libre every year,” said Minister of State Bernier. “Congratulations to everyone who helped organize this 35th edition of the festival, which will be a must-see event for the region once again!”
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $4,600 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
