OTTAWA, July 31, 2012 - It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Suzanne Martel.

Suzanne Martel published more than 20 works, which have entertained generations of Canadians.  She was the recipient of more than a dozen literary prizes from across Canada, awarded with the Canada Council Children’s Literature Award for Nos amis robot, in 1982, and the Governor-General’s Literary Award for French-Language Children’s Literature in 1994 for Une belle journée pour mourir.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Suzanne Martel.
