Have you ever wondered what makes a song Canadian? The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) developed a definition for broadcasters to meet Canadian content quotas. It specifies that two of the following four elements must be met: the music is composed entirely by a Canadian; the artist is Canadian; the music is a live performance that was either recorded in Canada or performed and broadcast live in Canada; and the lyrics were written by a Canadian.

CBC launched CBC Music and the CBC Music Application in February 2012. The new digital music service offers a choice of 40 different web radio stations, 14 distinct genre-based communities, and music from nearly 1,000 major and indie record labels.
