Harper Government Supports Sawdust Media

BURFORD, Ontario, August 30, 2012 - An investment from the Government of Canada will help Sawdust Media, publisher of Canadian Woodworking & Home Improvement magazine, realize its full market potential through new technologies and a modernized outreach plan. This was announced today by Phil McColeman, Member of Parliament (Brant), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. Funding will support the modernization of the magazine’s current website.

“This year marks the start of the five-year countdown to Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is proud to invest in projects that contribute to our collective identity and define who we are as Canadians. On the road to 2017, let us continue to celebrate all of the things that make Canada the united, prosperous, and free country we are today.”

“The Canadian periodical industry contributes to the nation’s quality of life and to the economic and cultural strength of our communities,” said Mr. McColeman “The Government of Canada is proud to support a magazine that complements the many interests of Canadians.”

Canadian Woodworking would like to thank the Government of Canada and the Canada Periodical Fund,” said Linda Fulcher, President of Sawdust Media. “The Business Innovation grant will allow our magazine to transition from a traditional print magazine to a multimedia publisher and better connect to readers using modern technology.”

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $24,750 through the Business Innovation component of the Canada Periodical Fund. The Fund invests in periodicals like this one to help increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries. The Business Innovation component encourages innovation to adapt to changing market conditions and contributes to the diversity of content sought by Canadian readers.
