Harper Government Invests in the Salon du Livre de l’Outaouais
GATINEAU, February 28, 2013 - Royal Galipeau, Member of Parliament (Ottawa–Orléans), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for the 2013 and 2014 editions of the Salon du livre de l’Outaouais.
“By celebrating French-language authors and publishers, the Salon du livre de l’Outaouais is contributing to the growth of the Canadian book industry,” said Mr. Galipeau. “Thanks to the Salon, writers from the region will have the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and reach out to new audiences.”
The Salon du livre de l’Outaouais is a not-for-profit organization that promotes French-language publications from Canada and abroad, as well as their authors, in collaboration with partners from the book industry.
“Our Government is proud to invest in projects that contribute to our collective identity and define who we are as Canadians,” said Minister Moore. “We are committed to ensuring that all Canadians have access to a diverse range of Canadian-authored books.”
“Thee Salon du livre de l'Outaouais would like to thank the Government of Canada for its support,” said Denis Gendron, President of the Salon’s Board of Directors. “The fact that this support will be for the next two editions will facilitate the planning and organization of our event. It will allow us to continue providing citizens with a literary event of the scope and quality they have become accustomed to over the last 34 years.”
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $90,000 for two editions of the Salon du livre de l’Outaouais through the Support for Organizations stream of the Canada Book Fund (CBF). The principal objective of the CBF is to ensure access to a diverse range of Canadian-authored books in Canada and abroad. The Fund seeks to achieve this objective by fostering a viable Canadian book industry that publishes and markets Canadian-authored books.
