Marie Béland completed a bachelor's degree in dance at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), where she received the Prix William Douglas. In 2005, she founded her own company, maribé – sors de ce corps, with whom she produced a series of singular works where undisciplined is organized with precision and spirit. Alongside her work on stage, Marie Béland is interested in dance in situ, multidisciplinary work and teaching. Through her work, Marie Béland challenges the very discipline of dance, revealing the work behind the scenes, the equipment and sometimes even the imperfections in seemingly carefree works that actually form the basis of a profound reflection on human nature and social issues. Her choreographic universe melds physical energy with theatricality, absurd humour, pop music and spectator engagement.
