Jacquelyn Hébert (Winnipeg, Manitoba)
The work of Jacquelyn Hébert, a Franco-Manitoban artist, stems from an interest in historical, cultural and fantasy stories. Her recent artistic focus has been on the complexity of Canadian and French-Canadian identities; her interest lies in the gaps between our cultural expectations and the reality of actual experiences. Through her work, Hébert strives to challenge perceptions of the meaning of identity and how memory and nostalgia play a part in understanding who we are. Hébert is an interdisciplinary artist, and her preferred medium is video installation. She also explores the way in which digital media can intersect with original or obsolete handmade objects. In addition to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film, Video and Integrated Media from Emily Carr University, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Manitoba. She is currently working on her master’s thesis in Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montréal.
