Harper Government Supports the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation
SAINT JOHN, April 4, 2013 - Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament (Saint John), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced that Symphony New Brunswick is benefitting from a boost to its fundraising efforts through the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation.
“Since its founding in 1983, Symphony New Brunswick has become the largest classical music organization in the province, presenting concerts in Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton,” said Mr. Weston. “By providing a boost to their endowment fund, our Government is pleased to contribute to the success of an organization that provides New Brunswickers and visitors with excellent musical performances year after year.”
“Not-for-profit arts and culture organizations like Symphony New Brunswick contribute to the cultural strength of our communities and enrich the quality of life of all Canadians,” said Minister Moore. “By supporting these organizations, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy and support our arts, culture, and heritage.”
“Both Symphony New Brunswick Foundation and Symphony New Brunswick are truly grateful for the continuing support of the Government of Canada through this very well-conceived and well-administered incentive program,” said Reid Parker, President of the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation. “This contribution and those received in previous years have helped enlarge our endowment significantly. This fund is now having a major positive impact on the Symphony’s financial health and sustainability.”
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $124,024 for the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation to manage and invest on behalf of Symphony New Brunswick. Funding is provided through the Endowment Incentives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund, which encourages Canadians to donate to professional arts organizations.
To date, the program has contributed to the long-term sustainability of 171 arts organizations across Canada through matching grants to endowment funds.
