Harper Government Supports the OFF Festival des Harmonies et Orchestres Symphoniques du Québec

SHERBROOKE, April 25, 2013 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for the 10th OFF Festival des harmonies et orchestres du Québec.

This investment will allow more than 800 local artists to take part in the OFF Festival from May 2 to 26, 2013. During the festival, hundreds of free concerts will be offered at different sites in downtown Sherbrooke. Introductory music workshops will also be given by students from the city’s universities and colleges.

“Our government is proud to support the OFF Festival des harmonies et orchestres symphoniques du Québec in its efforts to present top-quality programming for residents and visitors,” said Minister Moore. “By investing in local festivals like this one, our Government is supporting the regional economy and giving Canadians a chance to take part in arts and culture activities in their own community.”

The Corporation du printemps musical de Sherbrooke promotes the development of musical activity in Sherbrooke. Each year, it organizes the OFF Festival in conjunction with the Festival des harmonies et orchestres symphoniques du Québec.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $49,800 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
