Harper Government Supports the Mondial des Cultures de Drummondville
DRUMMONDVILLE, Quebec, May 22, 2013 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today reaffirmed the Government of Canada’s support for the Mondial des cultures de Drummondville.
“For over 30 years, organizers and volunteers have devoted their time and effort to organizing the Mondial des cultures de Drummondville, where artists and artisans from around the world come to share their art, their culture, and their traditions,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government knows that arts and culture improve our quality of life, while contributing to the vitality of our economy and our communities. That is why we are proud to support the 32nd Mondial des cultures.”
The Mondial des cultures de Drummondville is a major international cultural event that presents various facets of world traditions through activities for the whole family. It attracts close to 300,000 visitors every year and features close to 500 artists. Its activities include dance and music performances, activities aimed at raising public awareness, and the tasting of food from different countries.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $110,000 over two years ($55,000 for the 2012 edition and $55,000 for 2013) through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada’s culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
