Minister Moore Announces Support for the Show "Deux Rives, Une Seule Musique"

GATINEAU, May 24, 2013 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for the show “Deux rives, une seule musique.” The show will take place in Gatineau on June 29.

“This musical will allow us to commemorate, in a very special way, the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s voyage through the Outaouais region and Eastern Ontario, the cradle of the Francophonie in Ontario,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is proud to support this show that highlights an important moment in our country’s history.”

The show “Deux rives, une seule musique” will tell the story of Champlain’s interactions with the country’s first inhabitants and celebrate the progress made in the Ottawa River region since Champlain’s voyage. The show will demonstrate how Aboriginal, French, and English groups worked together to turn this territory into a prosperous and free country.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $350,000 through the Commemorate Canada component of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Celebration and Commemoration Program. This component aims to build a sense of pride and belonging among Canadians by supporting initiatives of national significance that commemorate important aspects of Canada’s history.
