Delivery of Canada Day Poster Challenge

Initiated in l987, the Canada Day Poster Challenge encourages young Canadians to give artistic expression to their pride in Canada and being Canadian. One finalist is chosen from each province and territory, from among which one national finalist is then chosen. The artwork of the national finalist goes on to become the artwork of the official Canada Day poster and is also incorporated into the design for a sun-visor. All 12 finalists and their families travel to Ottawa for celebrations on Parliament Hill, with the support of corporate sponsors.

The Program coordinates all facets of this initiative, including development of the promotional brochure, local administrative guidelines, judging criteria and ministerial correspondence, controlling production of the final poster artwork and overseeing all arrangements for the finalists and families as well as corporate sponsors while in the nation's capital. The latter includes organizing a special social event hosted by the Minister of Canadian Heritage and an exhibit of all 12 posters. In 1997, approximately 37,000 young Canadians participated.
