Support for Interpretation and Translation aims to assist organizations that encourage the participation of Canadians in both official languages at public events and to increase the number of documents available in both official languages.
Targeted activities are:
simultaneous interpretation and translation, from one official language to the other, of documents related to public events such as conferences and congresses held in Canada;
translation, from one official language to the other, of documents intended for members of the organization and the Canadian public, such as brochures, folders, Web site contents, etc.
* Translations must be done by a professional translator not associated with the organization.
Funding under Support for Interpretation and Translation is targeted primarily to Canadian non-profit organizations duly incorporated according to provincial, territorial or federal laws.

Funding decisions are based on available funds and analysis of requests in accordance with the following criteria.

* The organization must show that it is the author of the documents it wishes to have translated or that it has obtained permission from the copyright holder to have the texts translated and published.
Eligible expenditures under Support for Interpretation and Translation are:
Funding may not exceed 50% of eligible expenses, to a maximum of $5,000 per request.
An organization may submit one funding request per government fiscal year.
An organization wishing to receive financial support for interpretation and translation should consult the "Applicant's Guide" and complete an application form.
Requests may be submitted at any time during the fiscal year. Evaluation of requests takes several weeks. Interested parties are, therefore, asked to take this into account when submitting their request and to allow approximately 12 weeks before the start of the activity.
Funding recommendations will be based on available funds and due diligence principles, following a review of requests. The Department reserves the right not to review requests where the time required for evaluation has not been respected or where all of the available funds have already been committed. All funding decisions rest with the Minister of Canadian Heritage.

Requests that do not contain all the required information as
outlined in the "Applicant's Guide" will not be
considered.
Approved projects will be funded by the Department through grants.
Organizations must acknowledge the contribution of the Department of Canadian Heritage in all publicity or advertising programs related to funded activities.
Organizations receiving funding must complete and return to the Department an activity report, as well as samples of translated documents.
