Niger hosted the fifth edition of the Games. This international gathering took place from December 7 to 17, 2005, in Niamey. More than 2000 athletes and artists representing 44 states and governments took part.

Team Canada won 18 medals in the various sport and cultural competitions, ranking 4th overall. However, more important than the medals hard won on the fields, tracks, mats, rings, stages and exposition grounds, Canadian athletes and artists showed their hearts of gold.
